this is the album that proves how deluded i was or still am as a human being making music... i thought this one was the 'big one'... my breakthrough' record... the one that was going to make me huge in the world of music... i thought that it had so many possible hits on it... it was a pop record to rival all other pop records... but the truth was it was recorded on 4-track again using a casio-tone for drums, my broken down fender jaguar, my friends nylon string acoustic and a tupperware container of rice as percussion on 'jet black hair' and 'weird girlfriend'... and i made like 20 copies of this record in total to give to my friends... but still somehow i thought that if any of my records could be big and make an impact it could be this one... it's a real journey... i was really in love with somebody while i was making it... i was in a really good place and a really bad place all at the same time... having a great time and also having a really shit time as well... this would be the last record that i would make on four track... after this i got a computer... i have been asked if i would remaster some of these songs but that might be missing the point... i know i could record them a million times better now, okay maybe 50 times better, but really for me all these songs on all of my records were more about the moment they were recorded... and putting a feeling on tape and not so much just about the specific song... i do feel that someday very soon i will make a record that has better recorded versions of my ummmm 'best' songs on it but these versions will always be there because these will always be the most real... the version of say 'pussy moon' on here is a million miles away from how i wanted it to sound but it is what it is... it's me making music the only way i could at the time... i didn't have time to wait around on some fucking record producer to magically find me and put me in a studio... i just had to get it done... but then with say 'weird girlfriend' i don't think i could record a better version of that if i tried... it's perfect as it is... around the time i made this i met marcus and anthony and we formed the demi whores... so finally i had found my musical soul mates... |
