i found this great discussion  about 'who owns culture' between a really interesting guy called lawrence lessig and jeff tweedy from wilco moderated by steven johnson that was recorded live at the new york public library on the 7th of april 2005... it inspired me to put all my music online for free... which i am starting to slowly do here... over the next little while i'm gonna put all my records up on the site for free download aswell as printable artwork... it made me (finally) come to the realisation that my music will never make me stinking rich, and thats not what i do, or have ever done it for anyway, and because i am evil records is not really a REAL record company, and i can do whatever the f@#k i want with it, i am just going to give all my music away for free... most of my records cost nothing to make except maybe a few blank cassette tapes and some new guitar strings anyways... of course if you still want to buy an actual cd or a t-shirt or some artwork and help me pay for some new geetar strings then thats cool too... the store page ain't going nowhere quite yet...

living the quiet life...
it's been a while since i updated this website or did anything really... my baby daughter bebe ray was born last june so i have been hanging out with her alot and not making much music... it's been really great and bebe is the happiest baby alive... every photo you take of her she is smiling... so we must be doing something right... my son wilco is five now so he's off at school... sometimes it's weird to think that i'm a parent but i look at my kids and i think that they are the best thing that has ever happened to me... even though i don't get to sleep in anymore, it's a small price to pay to just have these two little people in my life... bebe is constantly crawling over to my guitars so i will be interested to see if her fascination continues... as far as music goes the demi whores have had a period of slight turmoil... after working so hard to get our record out some events in my life meant that we couldn't tour the record and then bebe came along and i wanted to just focus on her... marcus started playing some shows with fats white and anthony returned to australia for a bit... but we had our first practice a few nights ago after nearly a year since our last show and came out with 3 new songs... i have also written an album which will be called fat skeleton and i'm looking at having that out in october... maybe... so watch this space...

the counting the beat radio show on waiheke community radio have awarded the demi whores with the honour of best rock album at their second annual alternatui NZ music awards... these awards offer a different perspective than the two big award new zealand music industry ceremonies; the silver scrolls and the tuis... the demi whores are stoked to have been awarded this honour and also stoked to have been award winners in the company of someone as great as pumice who was awarded best male solo artist... also winning an alternatui were the vietnam war for breakthrough act of the year and the whipping cats who took out album and band of the year... choice...

another new single...
edward gains has posted another new instrumental single on his mypace page which is free to download now... it's a pirate inspired anthem of sorts posted in honour of the new pirates of the carribean movie which came out last week and edward and his son wilco went along to the new zealand premier... we are pretty sure that wilco was the first 4 year old in new zealand to see the new movie... go and see some photos of wilco at the premier on his myspace page...
